
Ed Lachendro
Ed’s first logged flight hour, in 1975, was in an Aeronca Champ that he helped his father
restore. Following high school, he joined the US Army and served as a crew chief and
mechanic on the Boeing CH-47 “Chinook”. Upon returning home he attended Penn
State. Since that first, hour Ed has logged more than 30,000 flight hours.
Lachendro holds an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate with Type Ratings for
Boeing 737, 757, 767; Airbus 320, Embraer EMB 190; and Cessna Citation. He also
holds a Flight Instructor Certificate (CFI). Ed has flown for several Part 135 charter
companies and Part 121 airlines. He has also flown for the State of Wisconsin
Department of Administration and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
Ed served as Executive Director for the Experimental Aircraft Association’s (EAA’s)
Young Eagles program between 1992 and 1994. He remains active in promoting
aviation to youth through the Ray Scholarship Program, Young Eagles, and personal
mentoring. He is also a member of numerous aviation organizations including
Wisconsin Soaring Society, Antique Airplane Association, Midwest Antique Airplane
Club, EAA and the EAA Vintage Aircraft Association.
Ed has owned several antique and experimental aircraft including a: 1946 Aeronca
Champ, 1949 Piper PA-16 Clipper, 1941 Piper J-3 Cub, 1947 Piper PA-11 Cub Special,
1932 Waco IBA, 1939 Fairchild 24, Van’s RV-6, Bellanca Decathlon and Marquart
Charger. A Champion Citabria 7KCAB was recently added to his stable of aircraft.
He has also served as a technical writer for Honeywell Corporation and US Airways. Ed
and his family have lived on their private airport in Dodge County, Wisconsin since
1994.
